National Cupcake Week

National Cupcake Week

In our opinion, every week should be cupcake week. But we’ll take what we can get. This week, starting Monday, 18 September, officially marks National Cupcake Week – so what better reason to think about baking, decorating and most importantly, eating cupcakes?

As luck would have it, there’s a fantastic selection of cupcake essentials available from, from bakeware to kitchen gadgets and even sweets to decorate with!

Mason Cash BakewareNow if you don’t already have a favourite cupcake recipe, you can start with some great basic tips from BBC Food for vanilla cupcakes and buttercream icing. Next, be sure to enter these into your personalised ‘Mum’s Fave Recipe Book’, complete with wooden spoon!

Next up, you’ll need a sturdy mixing bowl, like this gorgeous 29cm earthenware bowl in vibrant red from the legendary Mason Cash (psst – it’s on offer now too!). Then sort out a proper baking tin. We think this 12-cup example from everyone’s favourite blue-eyed baker, Paul Hollywood, fits the bill nicely: a chemical-free, non-stick surface keeps cakes intact, while the thick carbon steel core gives incredible durability without warping. It’s also perfect for mince pies and muffins – plus it comes with a 20-year guarantee (five years for the non-stick coating) so you know this tin means serious business.

And to mix together all your ingredients, the KitchenAid Hand Mixer in red. It’s an amazing bit of kitchen kit, and it’s now available at an equally amazing price, so don’t waste a minute – you have to see this deal to believe it.

Now you’re armed with your recipes, your mixing bowl, baking tins and mixers, it’s time for the best part: decorating. By the way, the kids will love this as much as they’ll love eating the finished product! (Just be sure to let the cakes cool thoroughly before icing and decorating, or else they’ll fall apart.) We love the retro appeal of the Candy Shop’s old-fashioned jars of sweets. With their mix of colours and shapes, the dolly mixture and liquorice allsorts assortments open up a world of decorative possibilities, so let your imagination go wild.

On the off-chance you have any cupcakes left over after your baking spree, store them in this Bakers’ Authority set of 3 cake tins from Mason Cash, a brightly coloured collection of coated steel tins in varying sizes, with a charming vintage-throwback vibe. Your baked treats will stay fresh and delicious for days!

Bon appétit!
