Faux leather and Fur

Faux leather and Fur

If there’s one thing that we love about winter (apart from parties, Christmas, presents, snow and a million other things) it’s the chance to invest in some luxurious yet practical fabrics to keep out the cold and rain, yet still look stylish.

Faux fur and leather have always been popular winter fabrics, but this season they took a unique turn – with jewel-toned leathers and exotically-hued furs gracing the haute couture catwalks. But both of these fine fabrics can be a bit tricky to wear, so here are some of our top picks of faux fur and leather to experiment with this season.

Fur and Leather trend

For instant, old-school glamour, the Myleene Klass Faux Fur Coat can’t be beaten; this knee-length coat is finished in a grey-brown hue, creating a realistic fur look that wouldn’t look out of place on a Hollywood starlet. For a modern take on the glamour-puss look, the Love Label Faux Fur Coat, with its longer, striped fur, is perfect.

We also really like the structured South Short Faux Fur Coat in rich chocolate brown, which would be ideal over work-wear or a tailored shift dress. Faux fur can also be casual rather than too over-the-top: this Love Label Faux Fur Gilet can be thrown on over a cosy winter jumper and jeans combination to add warmth and a touch of boho style.

When it comes to leather, a classic black leather jacket will never go out of style, but this season the fierce fabric has a lot more to offer. Jewel tones were big news for AW2012, so this Love Label Luxe Leather Bomber Jacket in cobalt blue and black is perfect for working the trend: pair with dark denim jeans and studded, stacked platform heels for a powerful party look. If you prefer something more traditional, the Jameela Jamil Leather Jacket with Shoulder Pads in caramel brown is ideal for adding a touch of biker chic to a classic party dress.

Leather isn’t just good for flattering jackets, either. Pencil skirts, shorts and much more in berry-toned leathers were popular for AW2012, so why not look at incorporating something a bit more unusual into your wardrobe? The G-Star RAW Radar Leather Look Top, with a jersey back and leather-look front, looks great with tailored trousers for work, or contrast it with a sequinned pencil skirt for a night out. The South Premium Leather Trousers are a good option for those of us blessed with slim pins, and make a great Christmas party outfit when teamed with a white shirt and this season’s metal-pointed court shoes.
