Five Day Littlewoods Style Challenge – Day 3

Five Day Littlewoods Style Challenge – Day 3

We’ve asked our lovely menswear buyer, Dorothy, to be the first person to take on our Five Day Littlewoods Challenge. Find out more about the challenge here, and read on to see Dorothy’s recap of day three of the challenge and find out how you can be in a winner in today’s giveaway!

Day 3

I had a day full of meetings today so it was important that I looked fairly smart and felt comfortable in what I was wearing. There’s nothing worse than meeting with people and trying to make a good impression when you’re feeling self conscious, so I tried to use something from my eight pieces that would enhance one of my favourite outfits, rather than be too adventurous with a completely new look, like I did yesterday.

In my French Connection blazer and Miss KG wedges

So I wore my French Connection Morning Mist dress, which isn’t one of the eight pieces but is one that I bought myself from Littlewoods because I really liked it, it’s so versatile and has lovely bits of detail and fits brilliantly. To smarten it up I added my own skinny belt and wore the black French Connection jacket which looked really good with the dress, and as I expected from French Connection the quality was great and the fit was very flattering.

I tend to wear a lot of cardigans as I’m not normally much of a blazer person, so while I know I love French Connection I still probably wouldn’t have chosen to buy this jacket before now as it is similar to a blazer style. But I was actually really comfortable – the crepe fabric hangs well and isn’t restrictive at all, and it kept me nice and cool so I wasn’t taking it on and off during my meetings. I can see how blazers can be so versatile and can really balance out a casual outfit, I also tried this one on with my jeans and it just gave a casual look a bit of a smarter edge.

Miss KG Wedge Platform Shoes

The one item I was most nervous about wearing from the eight pieces I was given was the Miss KG shoes. I love wedges but I’m used to wearing strappy, summery styles and I was worried these black shoes were going to look a bit clumpy and was really expecting not to like them. But they were so comfortable and actually looked really nice when I wore them with black tights – from the front my legs looked longer and the wedge was much comfier and more on-trend than normal black heels, so I’d definitely wear them again as an alternative to winter heels.

This is one of my favourites outfits of the week so far – of course it helps that the dress is my own and I always feel good wearing it, but the jacket and wedges are both items I wouldn’t have tried with this dress if it weren’t for the challenge, so I’m really happy I gave them a go as I’ve now got a whole new outfit that I’ll get loads of wear out of for the rest of the season.

Today we’re giving away the Miss KG Wedge Shoes, as worn by Dorothy in today’s challenge. For your chance to win these stylish shoes, just tell us what you think of Dorothy’s outfit today – is it something you’d wear, would you maybe wear the blazer or the shoes with something different, or do you think Dorothy has got it spot on? Let us know your thoughts by using the form below to leave your comment before midnight, and a winner will be picked at random tomorrow morning from all of the approved entries. Good luck!

Thanks for all the comments on yesterday’s post, we loved all of your styling ideas! The winner of the French Connection silk shirt is Pippa Saunders – Congratulations!

It’s perfect for the office and if you take the jacket off you can go straight out for an after work drink – smartly chosen outfit

Love the way Dorothy has put together this outfit, for a night-out I’d ditch the tights and go for a colour block dress.

  3. Posted by Nisha Koya on August 24, 2011

Love the outfit very stylish and fashionable.

  4. Posted by deborah hume on August 24, 2011

I think the outfit looks great but it would also look great with a pair of jeans xx

  5. Posted by Georgina Ball on August 24, 2011

    I like it!

  6. Posted by Julie on August 24, 2011

I love the shoes but the jacket really needs to be more fitted or perhaps changed for something different.

  7. Posted by jess on August 24, 2011

I would find this combo smart and comfy the perfect work suit

  8. Posted by Vanessa Cox on August 24, 2011

Perfect outfit! I would have accessorised the same way but with a more colourful tunique 🙂

  9. Posted by sam sellick on August 24, 2011

I love it! it’s really simple and classy.

  10. Posted by Emma Chipchase on August 24, 2011

This is the kind of outfit I should be investing in, the dress is just the right length with a high enough neckline to not expose anything when you bend over 🙂 The pieces can easily be mixed with other items too, I think its a comfy stylish combo.

Great outfit! I love this combo and I like the idea of wearing the blazer more casually with skinny jeans for example. The shoes look lovely with opaque tights but some colour somewhere would be nice 🙂

Nice look, young, fresh, contemporary and smart/casual so will work in many situations

  13. Posted by Mel Peakman on August 24, 2011

The skirt’s a great length on her and the shoes are stylish and wearable. It’s a good day-to-night work outfit too! It may be the photo, but a more fitted jacket would look a little better

Personally I wouldn’t wear it. The tights and shoes are far too heavy for the lightweight jacket and dress. It seems a mid-season mis-mash, Autumn shoes and tights, and summer dress/summer evening jacket. Also, it flies in the face of the current colour blocking trend.

i think the outfit is perfect for work, think a sleek high ponytail would look good with it

  16. Posted by Alex on August 24, 2011

Lovely! I like an understated outfit like this, so I wouldn’t change much, but I think the blazer weighed down the outfit a bit. I would have gone for a small half-length sleeved cardigan, and perhaps slightly thicker gold hoops. If I HAVE to keep the blazer, then perhaps swap the (lovely) dress for a nice printed blouser and cigarette pants. The heels will be kept no matter the outfit! I have been coveting them for quite a while now!

I outfit looks great would wear it looks stylish

  18. Posted by Louisa on August 24, 2011

Really like dorothy’s outfit. Probably would dress the blazer with Jeans or trousers rather than a dress…but I really do love those shoes!

  19. Posted by tinks on August 24, 2011

The wedges look so comfy. I would wear them with black opaque tights and leather mini skirt.

  20. Posted by AC on August 24, 2011

    Loving it!
I’d just be tempted to have a bit more colour for the dress, maybe red if a date’s looming, even!

  21. Posted by janine on August 24, 2011

It’s spot on. You’ve encouraged me to go buy that blazer I’m usually a cardigan girl like you but this looks so much more on trend.

  22. Posted by ALISON CAMPBELL on August 24, 2011

    casual but smart, fab shoes

  23. Posted by Rosie Dharamsi on August 24, 2011

i think I would have gone for a french connection chica jersey dress

  24. Posted by Natty on August 24, 2011

    looking good

  25. Posted by Chris Williams on August 24, 2011

love the wedges, although wouldnt wear the blazer. would look smart though

  26. Posted by Fiona L on August 24, 2011

Simple and stylish. I love it!

  27. Posted by Sarah Laycock on August 24, 2011

I just love it – I would call it a friendly and approachable yet professional look that holds its own in the fashion stakes!

  28. Posted by Lux on August 24, 2011

Lovely shoes. I’d pair them with bright tights and a wool mini dress for an autumnal look.

  29. Posted by Ligaya Bolton on August 25, 2011

    Love it!!!

  30. Posted by Kelly-Marie Dudley on August 25, 2011

I love the outfit, but would have been tempted to add a pop of colour somewhere… maybe some bold red shoes or a giant mustard statement bag…

  31. Posted by ellen on August 25, 2011

    Lovely look

  32. Posted by Shelle on August 25, 2011

I love the outfit but would perhaps go for a more fitted blazer to show off your figure.

  33. Posted by Tolu on August 25, 2011

    It’s fab

  34. Posted by Lili B. on August 25, 2011

To win this would be a big Step-Up for my wardrobe!

  37. Posted by dina armijo on August 25, 2011

a great outfit, and combination of girly florals with sharp lines. I wouldn’t necessarily wear the decadent black shows with black tights though, KG shoes need to attract the entire attention. Flesh coloured tights instead, or go bare legged it is meant to be summer, even if it raining – ok, maybe bare legged just for the office then.

  38. Posted by Karen on August 25, 2011

Very stylish, looks comfortable and practical.

  39. Posted by on October 27, 2013

Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an extremely long comment but after I clicked submit
my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again.
Anyway, just wanted to say fantastic blog!
