Stay Cool this Summer

Stay Cool this Summer

Although it’s often interrupted by a few downpours every now and again, we’re actually into summer now and most of you will have switched off your heating and noticed that it’s much warmer than it has been over the last couple of months.

Keep cool with a cotton duvet...

There’s nothing worse that feeling too warm in your own home but luckily there are ways of keeping cool this summer without resorting to installing air conditioning in your home, and we’re having a bit of a homewares sale at the moment which means that you can stay cool, without spending a fortune.

First of all, let’s start in the bedroom. After all, we spend a lot of time in bed and being sweaty and hot means that we’re restless and don’t get enough sleep, which definitely doesn’t make for a happy home. With that in mind turn your attention to your duvet.

Keep your pillows allergy free with these anti-bacterial ones from Healthy Living

Are you still sleeping with the same duvet you’ve been using all winter? Well, there’s no longer snow on the ground so that duvet should be packed up and put in the wardrobe ready for when it comes back. In the meantime you should be looking for a summer, low tog duvet that will help keep you cool on those warm nights. Why not let your skin breathe with a natural duvet, like this cotton one in a 4.5 tog, or if you suffer from bad allergies, such as hayfever, you can also get hypoallergenic duvets (like this one from Silentnight) that are specially designed to help alleviate allergies.

It’s not just duvets though, you can also get lighter, hypoallergenic pillows that not only help keep you cool but will also help you to breathe easy by easing the symptoms of your allergies too. We love these Healthy Living ones, which are not only hypo allergenic but are also anti-bacterial, helping inhibit dustmites and combats allergens. Plus if you buy 4, you get 2 free – perfect if you are planning on getting new bedding for everyone.

Let the air in with some pretty sheer curtains

If you love nothing more than keeping the windows open to let in a breeze, and waking up as the sun streams into the room, then you might also want to consider changing your curtains to something thinner and lighter which will allow the air to circulate. We love these simple Stockholm tiebacks, which come in a variety of shades and so should fit in with most room themes or add a romantic feel with these Voile curtains which come in pretty purples, pinks and creams.
