How to wear your maxi dress this Autumn

How to wear your maxi dress this Autumn

The maxi dress has been a huge hit all summer – keeping us looking pretty and glam while also keeping us covered up in the sunshine and keeping us warmer on those chilly evenings. Well, the maxi dress is here to stay and it’s a big trend for the Autumn/Winter 2010 season too but to save you buying even more maxis why not add some autumnal layers and accessories to update your look?

The first thing that you will need to do is to change your footwear as flip flops aren’t great in the wet and windy weather. Why not team your dress with some chunky leather cowboy boots or alternatively some cute shoe-boot style shoes which will keep your feet nice and dry as well as looking fab. Add some coloured tights that complement your maxi dress’s tones and you are set to go out into the blustery weather.

Next up you will need to layer up. A long boyfriend style cardigan is a great option to wear with a maxi and adds an additional layer of warmth.Alternatively you can wear a soft faux fur gilet to add some much needed warmth. On top of this you will need a fitted jacket or coat that will cinch in your waist and add that all important outer layer.

Accessory wise I would recommend a floaty scarf – silk, chiffon, pashmina etc – rather than a bulky knitted version. Add some leather gloves and a knitted beanie for a particularly cold day.

For your jewellery stick to simple, elegant pieces in autumnal golds and browns, which will mix and match with most colour schemes and be different from your colourful, upbeat summer maxi dress look.
