As you’ll all know by now the lovely fashionista, Coleen Rooney, is our very own style ambassador here at Littlewoods and we’re loving her picks for the Autumn/Winter season but my favourite look has got to be the retro, 60s vibe – classic, chic and effortlessly feminine – which will help you turn heads wherever you go.
So what exactly is a traditional 60s fashion look? Well, back in the day it was all about icons like Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy, shift dresses, miniskirts, pearls, bows and beehives. Today’s take on the 60s style takes these themes into account but with a modern twist and the result is a soft, girly feel with pretty prom dresses, shapely shift dresses and faux fur and pearl details aplenty.
Pearls aren’t exclusive to jewellery and a top tip is to embrace the new pearl trim trend – which can be seen on everything from cardigans, like this adorable pearl trim Love Label version, to pretty floaty dresses like this one from South.
Prom dresses make for a gorgeous night-time look, so if you’re looking to exude some Hollywood glamour then take a peek at this flirty spot prom dress or this organza version from Holly Willoughby that just screams screen siren.
Faux fur is a great way to embrace the 60s vibe and while real fur would never be an option for budding eco-lovers, the faux fur version is both hippy-esque and screen star glam. Plus, it’s super cosy too so it makes a brilliant material to wrap up in against the chilly wind. Try this three quarter coat in cream or, for a more bohemian feel, this Pixie Lott faux fur jacket is perfect for teaming with a mini skirt and boots.
The 60s look wouldn’t be complete without a mini skirt in your wardrobe, and while there are plenty of options, it’s also worth looking at the styles of mini dresses that are out there at the moment. I love this Love Label brocade dress with its velvet bow belt detail – team with some bow or lace detail accessories for a fun party look.
It’s important not to forget the accessories for the 60s style look – pretty bows are perfect for softening the look. For the ultimate girly indulgence bow detail shoes are the way to go – if you’re a fan of the nude trend or you just like pink, these Love Label satin heels will be the cherry on top of your retro cake.
