Packing for your summer holiday

Packing for your summer holiday

With the summer holidays just around the corner no doubt many of you will be looking forward to a bit of sea, sun and sand as you head for sunnier shores. Of course the time old question is always; what shall I pack?  The key to a great holiday wardrobe is picking pieces that mix and match, not overpacking and making sure you have plenty of accessories to glam things up.

Maxi dresses are perfect holidaywear – not only can you go from day to night with them by changing your accessories but they also keep quite a lot of you covered up and essentially in the shade so it’ll keep you cool in the sun but also provide warmth if it starts to get nippy on an evening. Change your flip flops to statement wedges or gladiator sandals and add chunky beads and earrings for a night time look.

Simple, flat and comfortable sandals are a must especially if you’re planning on doing some sightseeing – after all tottering about in heels doesn’t look great and your feet will not thank you. Take one pair of heels or pretty wedges that you can wear for dinner or a night out.

Simple t-shirts, a white shirt, denim shorts and cotton dresses are all items that are interchangeable and you can dress these up or down with accessories. A lightweight silk scarf is perfect for dressing things up while some statement chunky beads will add to a boho feel. Statement earrings will add a flourish to any outfit and the obligatory straw/cowboy hat will add instant beach cool whilst also stopping you getting a sunburnt face!

Keep to two or three colours so that you can mix and match your items – white is timeless and will keep you cool and although black is classic it absorbs heat so try not to take too many black items if you’re off somewhere sunny.

Swimwear is a whole other issue. When you see those skimpy bikinis in the shop think to yourself “am I really going to wear that?” Pick two or three flattering bikini’s, tankini’s or one-pieces that you feel comfortable in and pack a kaftan or sarong that you can use to cover up.

So remember folks – do not pack every pair of sandals that you own and think about whether you need ALL of your summer dresses. Pick basic items that will mix and match and accessorise well to take your outfits from day to night.
