Great ideas for half time food!

Great ideas for half time food!

It’s going to be hot for the England boys, playing under the South African sun. And because they’re forecasting a barbecue summer here, I’m stocking up on knitwear, cosy jumpers and cardigans and digging out favourite recipes for hot curries and warming hot pots.

If you’re like me, not that fussed about football usually, but wouldn’t mind a bit of a get-together to watch England win, you certainly won’t want to be all alone in the kitchen, cooking while everyone else watches a match on the new Plasma TV.

That’s why I’m investing in a good slow cooker like this one from Breville. Chop everything up in the morning, chuck it in, forget about it, then dish it up at half time for a really easy and nourishing meal. And much less washing up than loads of pots and pans!

Or for quick, easy and healthy, try this Russell Hobbs 6 litre professional pressure cooker by Marco Pierre White complete with a steamer basket for doing some quick half time veg to go with your slow cooked stews and casseroles. Pressure cookers like this are also great for home-made soup, which is fabulous comfort food if England are getting thrashed – a hot mug of broth and a few rounds of home-made bread, made with this Morphy Richards breadmaker – just the thing to steady the nerves if we have to content with any nail-biting penalty shootouts later on!

So what will be you be cooking up for your World Cup watching family? Please share any of your favourite slow cooker recipes below so more of us mums can put our feet up…
