Make Chip-tastic Meals

If you didn’t know already, the week beginning 16th February is Chip Week! Calling for all chip lovers across the nation to celebrate, it’s an opportunity to love your local chippy and even make your own at home. They’re an institution in the UK – did you know that more than 1.6 million tonnes of potatoes are made into chips every year in the UK, weighing the same as over 14,000 blue whales or 4,000 jumbo jets? Or that Brits use at least 26 different words for fish and chips? We didn’t either, so it’s time to get involved!

To make your own, peel some King Edward or Maris Piper potatoes with our Apollo Julienne Multi Grater Set with Changeable Blades. Next, slice them into chip shapes with the help of our Tower 5 Piece Knife Block with Acrylic Stand – doesn’t it look cool? But it’s not only stylish: the knives have easy-to-grip ergonomically designed handles as well as durable titanium coated blades. Use the Acacia Wood Cutting Board as your chopping surface.

Then you need to cook them, which you can do in a number of different ways. Use the Sabichi Stainless Steel 22cm Chip Pan – constructed from stainless steel for excellent heat conduction, and a tapered shape that’s ideal for holding the frying basket. The glass lid with an active steam vent helps you avoid splashing oil, while the riveted handle makes it easy and safe to lift. Alternatively, there’s the Breville VDF102 3-Litre Pro Fryer. Or cook them in a healthier way with our Morphy Richards Oven Chip Crisper.

Once they’re done, serve them in your favourite way – we love dousing ours in salt and pepper (the Morphy Richards Electronic Salt and Pepper Mill Set – White make this super easy) with a touch of vinegar. Or gravy. Or tomato sauce. Actually, who can decide?

If you love making homemade chips, you could also jot down your recipe in our Busy B Flip Top Recipe File.
