It barely seems like we’ve had time to enjoy the summer sunshine when already fashion editors and beauty writers are talking about next season’s top trends. We love beauty just as much as fashion here at Littlewoods, and this coming season’s hottest makeup looks have got us reaching for a brand new collection of great makeup bag essentials.
This season, a naturally finished face with concentration on the eyes and eyebrows was a big trend. In order to keep your skin hydrated and flawless during the colder months, make sure you cleanse, tone and moisturise every morning and evening. The Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant is an office favourite, thanks to its luxurious feel and rich, hydrating finish. Exfoliating your skin once a week is also a good idea, as this will keep your skin looking radiant; try the Gatineau Refreshing Melting Scrub, which is a gentle exfoliator that’s also good for those with drier skin types.
Once you’ve got a picture-perfect finish for your skin, keep the focus on your eyes and eyebrows with heavy liner and bold brows. The RapidBrow eyebrow enhancing serum is a fabulous product that we’ve all been slathering on to get more voluminous, natural brows – simply smooth through using the mascara-like wand and you’ll notice the improvement.
For smoky, dark eyes, use classic charcoal-black kohl eyeliner to create a dramatic look; the Barry M Bold Black Waterproof Eyeliner is a great price and lasts the whole day. Smudge the line on your top lids gently with a cotton bud to create a softer look, or try out the new gel formula eyeliners for slick, retro-inspired style. The Rimmel Gel Eyeliner comes with its own brush, and is a lot easier to handle than liquid eyeliner thanks to the ‘firmer’ gel consistency. Finish with a wave of a mascara wand, like the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Mascara in Black, for thick, luscious dark lashes. A key trend on the catwalks was also brightly-coloured mascara – try the Barry M Lengthening Mascara in Electric Purple for just a hint of vivid mauve on the tips of your lashes.
If you’re not a fan of dark eyes, or prefer to concentrate your makeup elsewhere on your face, then have no fear – this season also saw rosily-stained cheek and glossy, feminine lip colours as an alternative. Start with a simple, sheer colour that you can use on lips and cheeks, like the ModelCo Cheek and Lip Tint in Rosy Red. Blend in using the tips of your fingers over the apples of your cheeks, building up the colour gradually. For your lips, try a moisturising stain, like the Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lip Tint in Timeless Tango, which comes with a glossy balm that you can apply afterwards for extra shine. We also like the Models Own Lip Gloss Wand in Madam Rose and the Daniel Sandler Super Gloss in Pomegranate; two juicy, sheer colours that are perfect for a light and fresh-faced winter look.
