Tropical trends with Littlewoods

One of the hottest trends for Spring-Summer 2012 was a bold, bright and brilliant floral trend. But instead of previous years’ ditsy, small florals, 2012 is the season for anything and everything tropical. Photographic prints reigned supreme alongside classic 50s-inspired Hawaiian prints on all sections of the sartorial spectrum, with bright colours and clashing patterns creating eye-popping combinations.

Our Waikiki trend is the Littlewoods take on this exciting trend, and it’s not as difficult to wear as you might think! Make sure you choose fresh colours, shapes and print s to avoid looking too retro, and tie in your look with other key trends of this season for a fashion-forward, gorgeous look.

Peplum, pastels and tropical prints in one fashionable outfit

Our first look is perfect for the office or a sophisticated night out, and ties in some of this season’s best trends. The Motel Printed Trousers in apricot and olive green are a subtle take on the Waikiki trend; pair with nude patent heels (like the Ted Baker Kelmat Court Shoes in nude) to lengthen your legs, and an on-trend peplum top to accentuate your waist. We love the colour of the Club L Structured Peplum Top in a vintage green shade, plus it looks great with dark denim. The finishing touch is a pair of sparkling earrings, like the Metal Leaf Chandelier Earrings, for a true Miami-style touch.

Classi navy and modern neon form a sophisticated combination

Our second look involves another great summer trend – neon! Although this trend isn’t for everyone, when paired with some co-ordinating Waikiki florals and classic shades of navy, it’s a sophisticated look that’s ideal for big nights out. The Love Label Sleeveless Printed Dip Hem Blouse features an abstract floral print with classic tailoring that provides a cool contrast to the zingy Love Label Ankle Grazer Jeans in Lime green. Match your accessories with the stylish Miss KG Annalise Platform Shoes and the Wristlet Tassel Clutch in royal blue – fashionable and utterly wearable.

Clashing prints need simple accessories in black for the most impact

The final Waikiki trend look that we’ve put together is a little bit punk and super fashionable; great for nights out with the girls or a shopping trip. Clashing floral prints were big news this season, so take the plunge with the Love Label Floral Printed Mini Skirt with photographic pattern, and the Love Label Printed Jacket with a riot of fabulous tropical flowers. Keep the rest of the outfit sleek and simple with a black tee and accessories: the Buckle Front Wide Waist Belt will accentuate an hourglass figure, and the Clarks Aintree Ticket Loafers in black are comfortable yet stylish.

Whatever the occasion, and whatever your look, there’s the perfect Waikiki outfit for you – even if you’re not enjoying tropical weather. Why not have a look at some of our other great womenswear trends for summer 2012 here on Littlewoods?
