Bold, summery colours have been the height of fashion this season, whether that’s a splash of neon or colour blocking, and have been introduced to day, office and evening wear. Pastels have been incredibly popular too, but one of the hardest shades of all to wear, whether it’s a buttercup hue or creamy lemon shade, is yellow.
Yellow can wash out a lot of skin tones, as well as making others look jaundiced: either way, it’s not a good look! So how do you wear this fabulous shade of sunshine that screams summer and still look fantastic? Here are a couple of outfit choices we’ve put together to show you some of the great ways you can wear yellow and look yummy!
Our first look is perfect for the office but works equally as well for a sophisticated night out. The Fever Kate Dress, in sunshine yellow and black, keeps a splash of yellow as the focus of the outfit. Emphasis the cute 60s-style of the dress with the South Mid Heel Point Court Shoes in black, and a cute bag like the prim but glamorous Patent Gold Metal Bow Front Cross Body bag. Keep the black and gold theme with chunky accessories, like the Stud Detail Bangle Set, to finish this look to perfection. This is a great outfit if you’ve got a golden tan or darker-toned skin, as yellow can make some paler complexions look washed out.
Our second look is designed to emphasis the boldness and brightness of the summery yellow shades in the South Crochet Linen Dress, as well as make it stylish both on and off the beach. Add a little structure and a pop of contrasting colour with the South Fashion Jacket in cobalt blue; a relaxed fit makes this look formal but flattering. Keep the blue theme with contrasting, quirky shoes – we love the Love Label Channing Banana Heel Glitter Court Shoes, with their on-trend shape and touch of glitz. Unique jewellery in contemporary materials, like the Ted Baker You’re a Gem Acrylic Ring, adds the final touch. The balance of blue and yellow makes this a great look for all skin tones, even very pale skins.
Our final look makes the most of summery yellow shades, with some bold capri pants as the main focus of the outfit. The South Cotton Sateen Pedal Pushers in bright yellow are a fantastic way to inject some bold, buttery colour into your wardrobe. Add a pair of feminine, funky peep toe heels in a matching shade: we really like the Love Label Cone Heel Open Toe Court Shoes. A simple, fitted white shirt is the perfect match, like the South Three Quarter Sleeve Shirts (2 pack). The finishing touches are matching, sunshine-yellow accessories: the Wristlet Tassle Clutch – Yellow and statement Faceted Gem Necklace and Earring Set. This is a great look for all different skin tones, and a lovely choice for a lunch out with the girls.
