Back in January we ran a competition for one LW Blog reader to win a private dance class for their little one and five friends at the famous Pineapple Dance Studios. Our winner was Sarah Fleck, and yesterday her daughter Sophie and five of her friends – Megan, Catlyn, Emily, Eve and Nina – enjoyed a day in sunny London and a special visit to the studios.
After an exciting train journey all the way from Newcastle, where the girls met X Factor winner Joe McElderry (not part of the prize but a perk of the day no doubt!), they were met at the studios by top choreographer and star of the Pineapple Dance Studios TV show, Mark Battershall. After posing up a storm in front of the Pineapple sign, while wearing the Pineapple dance clothes we gave them to wear to the class, Mark put them through their paces in a tough dancer’s warm up full of stretching, sit ups and push ups.
Then it was on to the dancing, and Mark taught them a short group routine which they practised and perfected in front of the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall mirrors. Take a look at their final routine on our You Tube channel – after just half an hour of learning the steps we think they did a fab job!
After the class the girls were given a goodie bag each from Pineapple then taken on a tour of the studios and saw where all the scenes from the TV show were filmed, where Pineapple favourite Louie Spence dances his way around reception, and where Madonna filmed her ‘Hung Up’ music video (among lots of other exciting things!) The top floor studio that we used is normally reserved for the many celebrities that drop by for rehearsals including the likes of Madonna, One Direction and Kylie Minogue, so we were definitely in the best room in the building!
For the class, the girls wore the Pineapple 2-pack of t-shirts and the Pineapple hoodies in different colours, and teamed them with the roll cuff joggers, the ankle length leggings or the cropped hareem trousers – all from our Pineapple childrens wear range available online now.
Thanks to everyone at Pineapple Dance Studios, especially Mark Battershall, for giving our competition winners such a special day and if your aim is to get people dancing, it’s worked, as we’re all feeling well and truly inspired to get on our dancing shoes!
