Swimwear for your shape

Swimwear for your shape

With our summer holidays just around the corner our minds are thinking about very little else! We all want to relax and feel good on our holidays, so showing off our curves and getting some sun is all part of the package. To do this though we need to find that perfect swimwear that will fit and flatter our shape.

Here’s a quick fire guide to picking the right swimwear for your shape:

A bandeau style is great for those with small busts

Cover up from the sun in a tropical print kaftan

Slim: If you’re blessed with a slim shape, with a slender torso and narrow hips, then make the most of this season’s bright bikinis and tropical prints. Smaller busts will benefit from embellishment or ruffling to help create the illusion of curves, or opt for a bandeau bikini top in a pretty pattern.

We love this O’Neill Lava Bandeau bikini set which has a distinctly tropical feel and is perfect for slender ladies. Or if you prefer a little more coverage, opt for a high leg swimsuit that will help elongate your legs. This striped Resort swimsuit is perfect for slim shapes, as the horizontal stripes and halterneck will help create the illusion of curves.

If you’re feeling self conscious or want to cover up from the sun then why not embrace the summer’s must-have, a sheer dress, and pop on a gorgeous kaftan top, like this tropical print one from Love Label.

A plunging neckline and bright pattern will help disguise your tummy.

Try a 50s style high wasited brief for a little more coverage.

Apple: If you tend to put on weight around your middle but have slim hips and shoulders, then you have an apple body shape. Apple shapes will benefit from block colours, patterns or embellished swimwear, or a v-neck neckline to help draw the eye upwards.

Apple shapes can benefit greatly from patterned swimwear, so don’t feel that you have to hide away in a dark, plain swimsuit. We love this Resort Magic Tankini which has built in tummy control so help keep everything firmly in place, and the pattern helps divert attention away from your problem area. It also has a pretty v-neck style, which will draw the attention to your bust instead of your tummy.

If you fancy trying a bikini but are worried about flashing too much flesh, make sure you cash in on this seasons obsession with everything fifties and try out one of the high waist bikini styles. We love this 50s style Resort bandeau bikini and high waist briefs set. For your beach to bar cover up, this South one-shouldered kaftan is very pretty and again uses the neckline to draw eyes upwards.

Nautical stripes are great for the beach... plus there's hidden support too.

Avoid any embarrassing 'fall outs' with extra shapewear support!

Full Bust: It can be a real dilemma if you’ve got a fuller bust, as some swimwear just doesn’t offer the support you need. Look for bikinis with underwiring, thicker straps and halterneck designs to keep you supported where you need it most.

You can also get special shapewear bikinis and swimsuits that are designed especially to keep your bust lifted, prevent any ‘falling out’ and keep you looking great! We love this Shapewear bikini from Resort, with built in support – perfect for bigger busts.

Underwiring is something else that can help keep you supported; we love this Lepel Malibu Bikini which has fantastic summery colours, a chic design and it’s supportive! For those of you who prefer a little more coverage why not opt for a tankini with supportive, underwired cups, like this Resort one, which embraces the ever popular nautical trend – perfect for a trip to the seaside.
