Top Game Guide: Nintendo 3DS

It’s been a little over a week since the launch of the Nintendo 3DS but here at Littlewoods Blog HQ we’re rarely seen separated from our portable gaming friends! With so many games out there, it can be difficult to decide which one to buy first – what’s going to keep you entertained for a good while and help you see exactly what the 3DS is capable of?

Here are our favourite picks of the games crop so far:

Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition

The Street Fighter series is one of the world’s bestselling video game franchises, and it’s not hard to see why but even if you’ve never played one of the games, if you are a fan of arcade games then you’ll love this. There’s a whopping 35 playable characters to choose from and you can fight your friends, no matter where they are in the world, thanks to the Wi-Fi connection service.

The 3D Edition also has an impressive “3D battle mode” where the fight takes place from an over-the-shoulder point of view, giving you a true cinematic experience! There’s also a brand new ‘Ultra Combo Gauge’ which builds up as you receive damage – allowing you to unleash an extra powerful combo, and maybe even letting you fight to win.

The 3DS Edition brings Street Fighter to a whole new level and it’s packed with new features and bonus stages, so this is one that’ll keep you busy for weeks on end!

Nintendogs & Cats

If you’ve ever had a Nintendo DS before then chances are you will have seen the cute and fluffy Nintendogs, faithful friends who you can carry around in your pocket. Now, for the first time ever you can also play with adorable kittens, who are just as cute as the real thing!

The 3DS technology really brings the puppies and kittens to life, with more expressive pets who look softer and fluffier in 3D than ever before. There’s even in-built facial recognition technology which means that your new pet will respond to your real life movements, so expect plenty of kisses and jumps as you move around. They’ll recognise you as their owner too!

There are plenty of challenges, training and activities to keep you and your new pets busy! With the augmented reality feature you can also watch your puppy or kitten play in your home, or even sit in the palm of your hand.

The big question on everyone’s lips is of course – what breeds are available? There are lots of new ones to choose from, including the cute Golden Retriever, a tiny French Bulldog and the celebrity favourite, the Poodle, plus lots more, so you are sure to find your favourite. And, of course, there are countless kittens just waiting for a new home.

Although this is one that’s aimed at kids, we’ll be the first to admit that we love our new pets and we won’t be giving them up anytime soon! Oh well… they’ll just have to get their own copy.

Pilotwings Resort

This classic Nintendo game has been given a 3D makeover and with impressive results! Remember the Wuhu Island from Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus? Well now you can explore it like never before, by taking you Mii characters to the skies.

This 3D flight simulator lets you take to the skies in a hang glider, a plane or even a rocket belt and is a great example of how autostereoscopic 3D technology should be used. You can either as you explore the island, or challenge yourself in Mission Mode, with over 40 different time and points based missions to choose from. You can also unlock interactive extras and collectibles – which will keep you busy for quite some time, if you want to collect them all!

We think Pilotwings Resort is a bit of a gem and is a great example of just how good the Nintendo 3DS is, with some really creative gameplay.
