One of the key menswear trends to come out for the summer is the double denim look and while this may well conjure up images of Bros in the eighties, the look is truly back on the catwalk and all over the High Street.
It’s not going to be an easy look to carry off and while David Beckham may well look good in it there are some golden rules to follow to make sure you end up looking more catwalk-trend than homeless cowboy.
First thing that you will need is a denim shirt. Luckily these come in a variety of colours and the key to double denim fashion in contrasting the colours. This dark long sleeved shirt is perfect for a casual look. You could also opt for a denim jacket instead which can be used in a multitude of outfits and is perfect for covering up when it starts getting chilly on an evening, this one from Diesel will look good with most outfits.
The key to the double denim trend is to remember that mixing denim looks good but matching denim does not, so make sure that your pieces are suitably different. Pick a pair of jeans that will be comfortable and will last and most importantly that are a different colour to your shirt/jacket. Denim comes in loads of different hues and colours; from stonewashed blue and indigo to darkest black and they also come in loads of different styles with different fits so you can have anything from worn-in ripped jeans to super smart dark straight-legs.
You’ll need to break up the heavy denim look with something like a simple white or coloured tee under your shirt/jacket so that it’s not visual denim overload.
If you’re still not sold on the double denim trend but want to test the waters first then you can’t go wrong with some classic denim shorts which look equally great with casual tees and shirts too and will also let you get your legs out in the sun on those rare and beautiful sunny days in the UK! For a casual pair these Joe Browns cut-off style shorts are perfect or try these longer, darker pair from Voi Jeans for more versatility.
Denim is a big trend in menswear for the summer so keep an eye out and no doubt you will see some Beckham-inspired stylish men walking down the High Street, and hopefully one of them will be you!
